About the new site
It's the most amazing revelation since Orbis was established back in 1998 — make the Orbis website a tool of itself.
While the most common pages are still here — our clients, general descriptions of Bonsai, etc., 90% of the former Orbis site has been replaced by pages and content that we ourselves are constantly using and authoring on a weekly, if not daily basis. While it is very natural to position any website as a marketing and communications tool, our unique method of documenting information more internally or with partners forces us — no enables us to use and improve the authoring tools we sell. By constantly changing content, adding pages, etc., we are reminded every single time, what is easy to use, and what needs to be easier.
The essence of our content management tool, Bonsai, has been to enable a constant and organic change to a body of information. Our constant and changing body of information is the documentation of our tools, our standards, our code base, etc.
Some of the most poetic structures in the world are the old cathedral ceilings, with intersecting skeletal stone arches. The effort to produce higher ceilings with thinner columns produced this very revealing, raw but beatiful design.
This direction of opening up our processes, tools, and documentation will hopefully have a similiar impact of observing the natural patterns required of stone to support itself.
