Orbis website traffic shoots up 85%

February 24, 2010

TrafficGoogle analytics is reporting an increase in Orbis traffic of over 85% compared to the previous month with the leading content draw being the new Quickies page.  The analytics is showing the Orbis site as leading all other sites we measure as having the largest improvement in traffic as well.

Designed as the easiest and quickest way to post little snippets of interesting things out and about within the industry, the new application appears to be doing exactly what it was designed for — connect with an audience by reaching out with more content.

The inspiration initially was Twitter.  We feel the best Tweets are those that lead to interesting content.  Posting often to Twitter therefore seems to have taken the form of passing along interesting links we're finding.   Because our Twitter posts are also featured on our home page, it occured that traffic clicking through from our home page was leaving our site without any real measure as to the quality of the link.  In addition, most of the links we're passing along are strong enough that we like to add a little as to why we think they're important.  Since it's initial inception, we grew into the application in adding more features to allow for better storytelling prior to sending off the visitor.   We've also partnered with a writer who will edit and contribute to our posts ensuring the quality remains high.

The true test will be in seeing if it can help build more connections by growing followers of the Orbis Facebook fan page and the Twitter page.  But with the quickie application, little stories with a single image and link can be published in less than an hour.
