This is a game changer in web design.

Squarespace just released Fluid Engine.

This may be the biggest update to Squarespace since 2014 when they introduced version 7.

I’ve been building websites since 1995 — custom hand built sites until jumping into Drupal in 2010 and then into Squarespace in 2015.

In these past 27 years of building websites, my experience has been that Squarespace is the easiest, most flexible and secure platform I’ve worked with.

With fluid engine, it’s maintained those aspects while significantly providing more design power consistent with UI/UX best practices established over the past 20 years.

Your website is your home base where you convert visitors into customers.

  • It will become standard on 7.1 sites and is not going to be added to 7.0 sites

  • "Classic Editor" used a 12 column grid system, new system is 24 columns

  • Classic — changing one block affected other blocks — no more

  • No more spacer blocks

  • You can layer things over each other — creating collages

  • Can now add background colors to specific blocks

  • Image blocks: Fit or fill to the grid

  • Can now do full width / split layout

  • Separate Mobile and Desktop Editing
